Artesia youth bag an
elk on "Hunt of a
Lifetime"
CAPITAN,
N.M. - James Moore, known by his family as 'Little
James', lives with muscular dystrophy. But that wasn't too big
an obstacle for him to overcome in bringing down an 800
pound bull elk in a hunt last week.
Moore started his hunt Sept. 15 at the Canning Ranch north
of Capitan, N.M.. The ranch is a class-A park, and has a long
history of helping disabled hunters.
Ray Mounts and Joe Hesseling, ranch foreman, were
instrumental in the drive behind Little James' hunt. Mounts
coordinated the hunt with many different sponsors while Cam
Tribolet , a representative of Buckmasters, was responsible
for providing the shooting platform.
Jim Higgins, a representative of Remington Arms, was also
on hand for the hunt. Higgins and Tribolet are both disabled
hunters and were a great inspiration for Little James and his
family.
On the morning of Sept. 16, Joe had Little James strapped
down to a flat bed pick-up, while Mounts went ahead to scout.
About 45 minutes into the hunt a 5 x 6 Bull was spotted and
Little James took aim, and killing the 800 lb. bull. "I have
not seen Little James so happy in years," said James Moore,
Little James' father.
"He has always had a desire to hunt, but because of his
muscular dystrophy he gave up on it. Thanks to a lot of kind-
hearted people, his wish came true," he said.
"David Lester of Patriot Outdoors in Clovis was a great
help. He helped me to lift James and many other physically
demanding things. Patriot Outdoors also will have the bull
mounted for Little James," said Moore.
